Further trip details:
Joint overnight touring trip at Lake Eildon with MUMC
Plan is to drive up Monday morning, paddle out to a campsite somewhere across the lake to camp for the night (how far we go will depend on how the group is going), and then paddle back and return on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the easiest overnight touring trip that can be done, and is a great opportunity to try it out, so that you can try more advanced trips in the future. We will be using sea kayaks, so there will be some differences from the whitewater kayaks we use in the pool.
Boats and some of the paddling gear will be provided,. You will need to provide all other equipment and food for the trip. Please be aware that as we will be camping out of the boats space will be limited, so you will need to pack lightweight hiking style gear, not bulky car camping gear.
Gear List:
kayak, paddle and spraydeck (I will organise this)
pfd and CAG (collect these from the boat shed)
wetsuit/thermals if you feel the cold
wetsuit boots or old shoes to wear in the water (closed toed full coverage)
A dry warm change of clothes and shoes for the end of the day
Water Bottle to drink, and water bladders to carry water with
Food for 3 days
camping gear - sleeping bag, mat, tent, stove (can be collected from the gear room if needed)
heavy duty garbage bags to pack gear into in the boats likethese orthese
personal toiletries and medications
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the right gear. Trip leaders can answer questions you might have. If you dont have the right gear you may get left at uni and leaders might be unwilling to take you in the future.
