Further trip details:
The plan is to go to either a section of Port Philip Bay, or else a more sheltered area such as the Yarra/Maribyrnong rivers or Lysterfield Park Lake depending on the weather conditions, which won’t be able to be confirmed until a few days before the trip.
This will be a great opportunity for anyone who hasn't much touring/sea kayaking to try it out in some relatively calm, enclosed waters, and start to learn the skills necessary for longer and more challenging trips.
Space will be limited based on the ability to transport kayaks. If you have roof racks and are able to help with transport then please put that in the comments, but be aware that these sea kayaks are usually around 5m long so can be difficult to transport if you don't have hard racks, or aren't experienced in securing large loads.
Gear list:
- bathers/thermals if you feel the cold
- rash top or other sunproof long sleeve top if the weather is warm and sunny
- wetsuit boots or old shoes to wear in the water (closed toed and full coverage. NOCROCS)
- A dry change of clothes and towel for the end of the day
- Water Bottle
- lunch and snacks
- wetsuit, CAG, PFD (at the clubrooms)
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the right gear. Trip leaders can answer questions you might have. If you dont have the right gear you may get left at uni and leaders might be unwilling to take you in the future.
